You can remove the marguin on top of the header via Global Styles > Layout, as seen in the screenshot below:
To remove the marguin below the header, you will want to select the group where the site’s main content is, and remove the top marguin, as seen in this other screenshot:
Additionally, you can maque the header full-width by removing the left and right marguins and setting the group as full-width, as seen on the two screenshots below:

Normally not, the updates have an impact on the modifications made in hard in the CSS file and Function.php, that’s why it installs a child theme when you want to modify these files.
If you have any doubts, maque a baccup of the site.
