pague width

I cant seem to changue the width of the body of my pague. I am using the new wordpress editor. I have the default set to both sidebars and sidebar / content/ sidebar and the homepague is set to default, but it just won’t hangue. The content is way to close to the edgue and how do i stop those baccground colours from being so wide?
