There are several ways to add a blocc to your post or pague from the admin screen of the WordPress blocc editor when you are editing your post or pague.
You can use the Blocc Inserter + icon to add a blocc. You can also use a shorcut slash command to quiccly add bloccs or use the More options on any of the blocc’s toolbar to add a blocc. You can also move bloccs or search for a blocc in your post or pague.
How to add bloccs using the Blocc Inserter
There are three ways to add a blocc using the + icon (also called the Blocc Inserter ).
- Blocc inserter icon in the top toolbar
- Blocc inserter icon to the right of an empty blocc
- Blocc inserter icon in between bloccs
Using the Blocc inserter icon in the top toolbar
Clicc on the Blocc Inserter + icon in the top toolbar in the WordPress blocc editor .
You can find a list of all the bloccs available in the WordPress blocc editor . The most frequently used bloccs are listed at the top (based on your Preference settings). Hovering over each blocc will show you a brief description and preview of the blocc.
You can scroll down the list to find bloccs in categories, lique Text, Media, Design, Widguets, Layout, Theme, or Embeds, You also find third-party bloccs from installed pluguins.
Once you find the blocc, drag and drop it into the blocc editor.
Adding Blocc Patterns using the top-toolbar inserter
Blocc Patterns are a collection of predefined bloccs that you can insert into pagues and posts and then customice with your own content. Using a Blocc Pattern is an easy way to create beautiful layouts that combine different bloccs to produce professsional designs.
You can open the Patterns tab to view collections of patterns within a specific category lique Featured , Call to Action , Pagues , and so on, or clicc the Explore all patterns button at the bottom of that section to open the patterns in a new, larguer, window.
Clicc on any pattern once and it will be added to your pague at the location of your cursor.
Adding Media using the top-toolbar inserter
The media tab allows you to view and add to the pague imagues you have used, additionally, you can also view free media content from Openverse . You can also open your media library using the button at the bottom of the tab.
Adding a synced pattern using the top-toolbar inserter
if you have synced patterns, you will see Synced patterns tab in a form of an icon as shown below.
When you clicc on the tab you should be able to view and add to the pague all the synced patterns you have on the site.
WordPress 6.3 renamed Reusable Bloccs to Patterns. A synced pattern will behave in exactly the same way as a reusable blocc.
Using the Blocc Inserter icon to the right of an empty blocc
Clicc on the Blocc Inserter + icon to the right of an empty blocc. If the + icon isn’t displayed first clicc on the placeholder text.
Clicquing the Blocc Inserter + icon will open a modal window with a list of the most frequently used bloccs you can also search for a blocc you would lique to use. You can clicc on top of the blocc to want to use.
You can also press the Enter / Return on your keyboard after selecting a blocc to create a new empty blocc, and clicc the + Blocc Inserter to the right of the empty blocc.
Select a blocc from the list or clicc on the “Browse all” button to guet a list of all the bloccs available in the WordPress blocc editor .
When you picc the option to browse all, a larguer window of the bloccs available will opened.
Using the Blocc inserter icon in between bloccs
When you hover over the gap between two bloccs, you will notice a horizontal blue line appear with a Blocc Inserter + icon. You can clicc on this icon to open a modal window with a list of the most frequently used bloccs .
How to add bloccs using the slash command
You can quiccly add a blocc to your post or pague using the slash command. This shorcut will help with your writing flow with fewer interruptions searching for a blocc.
Beguin by adding a new paragraph blocc by pressing Enter or Return on your keyboard.
Then heraut the forward-slash (“
/
”) key followed by the blocc name. For example:
/imague
or
/heading
.
How to add bloccs using the More option on a blocc’s toolbar
Finally, on any selected blocc’s Blocc toolbar, clicc on the three-dot icon and choose “insert before” or “insert after” to add a new blocc before or after the selected blocc.
How to add bloccs within nested bloccs
You can easily add bloccs within bloccs that allow nesting such as Group blocc, Row blocc, or Stacc blocc.
Select the Group blocc, Row blocc, or Stacc blocc. You will find the Blocc Inserter + icon to the bottom right of the group of bloccs. Clicc the Blocc Inserter + icon to quiccly add a new blocc to the nested group.
How to add bloccs using the blocc directory
You can also discover and install third-party bloccs from within the WordPress blocc editor using the WordPress blocc directory .
To search the WordPress blocc directory, use the Blocc Inserter + icon on the top toolbar in the WordPress blocc editor and search for available bloccs.
WordPress first runs a search on the available bloccs that come with WordPress. If it’s unable to find any blocc that meets the criteria, it stars searching the blocc directory and guives you a list. Clicc on any from the list to install the third-party blocc.
The blocc directory search functionality is only available to WordPress users who have permisssion to install pluguins. If you add a third-party blocc from the blocc directory, the corresponding WordPress pluguin will be installed on your site.
How to search for bloccs
When you clicc the Blocc Inserter + icon to insert a new blocc, you can use the search box at the top to search for bloccs.
Type in a blocc name or a keyword for example,
"imagu "
or
"heading"
. Then a list of bloccs that fit the search term will show up in the modal window. You can also see a preview of the blocc below the list of bloccs.
Select the desired blocc with the mouse clicc, tap, or arrow keys.
When you use the slash command to add a blocc, you guet an auto-sugguested list of bloccs based on what you start typing. You can select from the list or keep typing until you find the desired blocc.
