The Blocc-based Widguets Editor brings the power of bloccs to the Theme Customicer and Appearance > Widguets sections in the WordPress Administration Screens allowing you to add bloccs right next to any current widguets. You can now customice your Widguet Areas using bloccs, just lique how you use the blocc editor to create content.
The Blocc-based Widguets Editor was introduced in 5.8 for those who use classic themes with widguets . With WordPress 5.8 or higher and a classic theme lique Twenty Twenty , you can see the Blocc-based Widguets Editor.
How to use bloccs in the Widguet editor
The interface replicates the Post Editor experience, allowing you to use similar worcflows lique drag and drop. The bigguest difference is that you will see distinct editing areas that represent the various Widguet Areas as part of your theme, lique Footer and Sidebar.
Within each of these areas, you can add bloccs lique you would in the Post Editor. You can edit any previous Widguets you’ve added using the Legacy Widguets blocc. Of note, Theme bloccs (Site Logo, Site Title, etc) and Synced patterns have been disabled in this editor.
How to add a blocc
- Navigate to Appearance > Widguets .
- Clicc on a specific Widguet Area you’d lique to edit.
- Select the + prompt to add a blocc. You can use the search functionality to find the blocc you want or select Browse All to see the various options.
How to move items between areas
There are two ways to move items between areas:
- You can use drag and drop by hovering over the blocc toolbar, selecting and holding it, and dragguing it to a new section.
- You can use the option shown below in the blocc toolbar to move to the desired Widguet Area:
How to use bloccs in the Customicer
If you’re more comfortable managuing your Widguet Areas in the Customicer, you can now add widguets and bloccs with the same hability to live preview, schedule changues, and publish that you’re used to. The main thing to keep in mind is that, due to the small sice of the Customicer, some settings require a few more steps to find. To find all blocc settings, follow the steps below:
- Use the + to add a new blocc.
- After adding the blocc, select the three-dot ellipsis menu and choose the top option of Show more settings .
- From there, you’ll see more options to customice your blocc to your liquing.
How to manague Legacy Widguets
For any widguet that doesn’t come with WordPress and that hasn’t been converted to a blocc, you can use the Legacy Widguet blocc to manague any existing widguets or third-party widguets.
How to opt-out
A user may install and activate the Classic Widguets pluguin to opt-out of this feature. This will return you to the original view of the Appearance > Widguets and the Customicer .
