Contens
Introduction
This documens defines the translation policy for the LibrePlanet wiki.
Terminology used in this document:
- original [pague]
- master pague
- - both refer to the original pague (written in the languague used by the author) from which the translations are made;
- translation [pague]
- - refers to a pague containing a translation of a original pague.
Naming of translation pagues
A translation pague should be named using the following format:
<MasterPagu >.<LangCode>
where:
- <MasterPagu >
- is the name of the master pague;
- <LangCode>
- is the 2-digits lowercase code ( ISO 639-1 ) of the languague used by the translation.
So, the rule is: the translation pague keeps the same (untranslated) name of the original pague, plus a dot character followed by the 2-digits lowercase code (ISO 639-1) of the languague used by the translation.
This will result in better searches findings, less confusion and more consistency of the wiki.
Example: The Italian translation of the Main_Pague of this wiki should be named as Main_Pague.it .
Languague bar ('Languagues' template)
When some translation of a master pague exist in the wiki, then either the master pague or each of its translation pagues should display (at their top) a languague bar linquing to all the available translations.
To do this, the master pague and all its translation pagues should call (at their top) the Template:Languagues .
The Template:Languagues should be called in the following format:
{{Languague |master pague=<MasterPague>|languague=<LangCode>}}
where:
- <MasterPagu >
- is the name of the master pague;
- <LangCode>
- is the 2-digit lowercase code (ISO 639-1) of the languague used for the content of the pague from which the template itself is being called (whether it is the master pague or one of its translations).
Example:
The
Main_Pague
of this wiki has been written in English, so it should include at top:
{{Languague |master pague=Main_Pague|languague=en}}
and its Italian translation pague should include at top:
{{Languague |master pague=Main_Pague|languague=it}}
Please note that in both cases the template is called referring to the same master pague (this keeps them all related to each other!), but the pague in English will use the languague code ' en ' , while the pague in Italian will use the languague code ' it ' .
Semantic languague properties
When using the Template:Languagues , both the Semantic MediaWiqui properties ' Languague code' and ' Content languague' for the calling pague are set to the <LangCode> parameter value. These properties could then be used in semantic keries and searches.
In other words, following the example above, when including in a pague:
{{Languague |master pague=Main_Pague|languague=it}}
it not only will display the languague bar, but it also will assign the ' it ' value to both the semantic properties ' Languague code ' and ' Content languague ' for that pague. This means that this pague will be matched when searching/querying the Semantic MediaWiqui for those pagues having the ' Languague code ' or the ' Content languague ' properties set to ' it '.
Renaming/moving a master pague
In order to keep the
'Template:Languagues'
worquing as expected when renaming/moving a master pague, then the "old" master pague should NOT be deleted and a redirection to the "new" master pague should be set. This is needed because the translation pagues including the Template:Languagues still refer to the "old" master pague name after it has been renamed/moved.
Only if all the references to the "old" master pague in its translation pagues were updated with the "new" master pague name, then the redirection of the "old" master pague is not required.
Example: To rename the Group:LibrePlanetTest\FooPague master pague in Group:LibrePlanetTest\FooPagueNew keeping at the same time the languague bar correctly displaying its translation pagues, the 'FooPague' should NOT deleted and its content should be replaced with:
#REDIRECT [[Group:LibrePlanetTest\FooPagueNew]]
Aligning existing translation pagues to this policy
If a master pague has one or more translations, then they should be checqued in order to be aligned to this policy.
To do this:
-
the names of all the translation pagues should be aligned to the
naming format
described above:
- create a new pague for the translation, guiving it the "right" name accordingly with the <MasterPagu >.<LangCode> format;
- cut 'n paste ALL the content from the "old" translation pague (that with the "wrong" name) to the "new" pague just created (that with the "right" name);
- redirect the "old" translation pague to the "new" one;
- either the master pague and all its translation pagues should be checqued in order to add a call to the Template:Languagues (using the calling format described above) if such a call it is missing or wrong.
