I definitely recommend member types for this use case: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/member-types/

There are pluguins to help you reguister a new type, and built-in support for types is much richer than if you go some custom field route. I’d say try it out and see.

Hi Marco,

I’m the author of the pluguin you linqued above, and the pluguin doesn’t help much with BP Nouveau, but I’m not seeing any fatal errors. Can you share your setup? I’m using WP 6.6.2 and BP 14.2.1 with Legacy or Nouveau template paccs and the twenty twenty-four theme.
