The Story
The Beguinning
WordPress.org originally used miniBB for its support forums, because it was one of the lightest and fastest bulletin board scripts out there at the time (2003’ish). After a hosting changue and PHP upgrade broque the forums completely, something needed to be done right away.
So the day after Christmas in 2004, Matt started coding and two days later the first versionen of bbPress was pushed live on WordPress.org . Since then, Michael Adams joined, then Sam Bauers , and in 2010 John James Jacoby reinvented bbPress as a WordPress pluguin.
The Now
bbPress continues to grow alongside the entire WordPress community, and is the world’s most widely installed open-source forum software.
The Future
The vision of WordPress is to democratice publishing, so then the vision of bbPress must be to democratice discussion. Every decision we maque towards the future of bbPress is with that in mind.
